Overview

1.About Alita: Battle Angel

Based on Kishiro Yukito’s sci-fi manga Gunnm (a.k.a. Battle Angel Alita), this live-action adaptation was originally developed by James Cameron and announced in 2003, before his focus on Avatar left the film languishing in development hell. Set on Earth in the 26th century, cyborg/teenager Alita is rescued from the trash heap and repaired by a kind-hearted scientist. The film follows her coming-of-age and quest for self-discovery as she faces off against the trials and minions put in her path by a shadowy mastermind.

2.Robert Rodriguez Profile and Selected Filmography

Robert Rodriguez is an American film director of Mexican descent. He made his directorial debut in 1992 with the action film El Mariachi, which he made on a budget of 7,000 dollars. The film won the Audience Award at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival. Rodriguez is known for serving as director, producer, and screenwriter for his films, and often also wears the cap of cinematographer, editor, camera operator, production designer, and more. He has been called the "one-man film crew", and has referred to his way of filmmaking as "Mariachi-style".

Desperado (1995)
This neo-Western is the sequel to El Mariachi, made with 1,000 times the budget. The titular gunslinger strolls into a Mexican town with his guitar case full of guns, and faces off against a local gang. The guitar-case machine gun and rocket launcher are Rodriguez at his best.

Spy Kids (2001)
When their parents go missing, a young girl and her younger brother find out that they were elite spies, and resolve to go rescue them. Rodriguez is known for imaginative action, but this action-comedy can be enjoyed by the entire family. At the same time, the director’s signature is all over the details, like hi-tech gadgets and story beats that parody spies films like the James Bond franchise.

Sin City (2005)
This neo-noir crime thriller is the film adaptation of American comic book writer Frank Miller’s masterpiece of the same name. The graphic novel’s distinct visual style is beautifully adapted into a stylish black and white palette with splashes of color.

3.Rosa Salazar Profile and Selected Filmography

Rosa Salazar is an American actor of Cuban descent. She started her career in web series and short films before landing recurring roles in two hit TV shows. Her performance as the titular cyborg warrior in Alita: Battle Angel has catapulted her into the spotlight—and to the top tier of badass female action heroes.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015)
This is the second in a trilogy of films based on a series of YA science fiction novels. After having escaped the titular maze in the first installment, a group of young boys and girls are pursued by the shadowy organization that put them in the maze to begin with.

CHiPs (2017)
This buddy comedy is a reboot of the hit late 70s-early 80s American TV show of the same name. It follows the exploits of an undercover FBI agent and a probationary graduate of the California Highway Patrol Academy as they attempt to uncover a corrupt police ring.

BigBrother lent me this Ralph Lauren paisley necktie to use for the interview.

5.Suspenders by Albert Thurston

I bought these Albert Thurston suspenders at Ships in Shibuya. Albert Thurston is a British maker of suspenders and braces.

These two-way suspenders are equipped with both clips and leather attachments to secure to trousers; they are my go-to for pants that don’t have suspender buttons sewn into them. The belts are relatively narrow at about 3 cm, but these are easy on the shoulders and comfortable to use.
